Organizers

The Feast Of Mother Cabrini raises thousands of dollars for local charities each year, continuing a tradition that so far has raised much needed dollars for local non-profits.

The Giuseppe A. Nigro Lodge, Order of the Sons of Italy in America, organizes the Feast Of Mother Cabrini. The feast’s co-chairpersons are Theresa Pernice, Mary Ann De Costanzo, Jack Abruzzo & Cameo Borruso.

Mother Cabrini is the “heavenly patroness of all the immigrants.” She arrived in the United States from Italy at the personal urging of Pope Leo XII in 1889 along with six missionary sisters. The sisters immediately began their mission: to establish a network of educational, health care and social service institutions for the millions of Italian immigrants entering this country in search of better lives. She was nationalized in 1909. In 1938 after an extraordinary lifetime dedicated to public service in God’s name, she was beatified. Mother Cabrini became the first saint to have held U.S. citizenship in 1946.

Funds raised by the feast benefit the following charities:
A portion of money raised will go to over 40 charities including: St. Frances Cabrini Shrine,  St Frances Cabrini High School, Suffolk Community College Scholarships, Brentwood High School Scholarship, St. Pius Residence, St. Lukes, St. Anne’s, Iglesias Del Dios Vivo, Boy Scouts of American, Giuseppe A. Nigro Scholarships, PRONTO of Long Island, PRONTO LUNCH, Day Care Center, Cooley Anemia, Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, Alzheimers Fund, AIDS research, Hospice of Bay Shore, Breast Cancer Research, Diabetes Research, Catholic Medical Mission, Long Island Cares, Ovarian Cancer Research, Third Precinct COPE Bike, etc.
