Garibaldi Meucci Museum Commissioners elected were: Rose Frisari, Colette Grillo, Stanley Klein, John Maura, Elayne Morga, and Luigi Squillante.

Arbitration Commissioners elected were: Chairperson Eleanor Jobbagy, Mario Cermele, Joseph Fratta, Anthony Musarra and Kathy Vitzthum.

Genevieve Lembo, Past President of the Le Amiche Lodge #2550 in Yonkers, and Salvatore LaLima, Past President of the P. Vincent Landi Lodge #2239 of Rocky Point, were presented with the Order’s prestigious Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro award named after the Order’s founder.  The purpose of the award is to recognize and acknowledge OSIA members who have distinguished themselves in the ideals and principles exemplified by its founder, Dr. Sellaro.

The Forte Family were presented with the 2012 Family of the Year Award. The Forte Family hails from the Le Amiche Lodge #2550 in Yonkers, New York.  They were honored for their outstanding involvement within the Sons of Italy as well as their civic and community service.

Representatives from 74 lodges throughout the state donated over $70,000 to various worthwhile charities including: Cooley’s Anemia, Alzheimer’s, Autism, the Commission for Social Justice (CSJ) and New York OSIA’s, Garibaldi Meucci Museum and the Gift of Sight.

The 2012 Literary Award was presented to Ms. Carole Maso.  Ms. Maso has won numerous awards including two NEA’s and a Lannan Fellowship for Fiction.  She’s been a professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of the Arts, and since 1995, she’s been Professor of Literary Arts at Brown University.

The highlight of the 106th State Convention was a special tribute to State Immediate Past President Salvatore Lanzilotta held on Friday evening, June 1st.  Mr. Lanzilotta was lauded for his outstanding leadership and service as the 29th New York State Grand Lodge President and was also the recipient of the prestigious 2012 Bene Emeritus Award.

A special Bene Emeritus Award, the State’s highest award was presented posthumously to Sister Nettie Innella.  The award is given for outstanding and distinguished service in accordance with our motto, liberty, equality and fraternity.  Mrs. Innella was a Past President of the John Michael Marino Lodge #1389 and was a proud 50 plus year OSIA member.

More than 450 delegates and guests were delighted to welcome New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli as the keynote speaker on Saturday afternoon, June 2nd.  Comptroller DiNapoli addressed the delegates in session and spoke about his Italian ancestry and reminded everyone of all the wonderful accomplishments of Italians and Italian Americans.

The New York Grand Lodge was also fortunate to welcome the National OSIA President Joseph DiTrapani.  President DiTrapani could not be prouder of the New York Grand Lodge and thanked those in attendance for their ongoing commitment and dedication to the Order Sons of Italy in America.

The theme of this convention was "From Italy With Love."   In closing the convention, State President Thom Lupo remarked, "The purpose of this convention was to reintroduce our beautiful Italian heritage and culture into our everyday lives - and this certainly has been accomplished!"
