The following State Officers were elected as well: Joseph Rondinelli, State 1st Vice President; Carolyn Reres, State 2nd Vice President; Robert Ferrito, State Orator; Carmine Federico, State Recording Secretary; Biagio Isgro, Jr., State Financial Secretary; Michele Ment, State Corresponding Secretary and Louis Biundo, State Treasurer.  Also elected were ten delegates to represent New York State at the National OSIA convention to be held in August 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cyprus Resort in Orlando, Florida.
 
The Bene Emeritus Award, the State’s highest award was presented to State Past Presidents; Joseph Cangemi; Joseph DiTrapani; Carlo Matteucci and Nancy DiFiore Quinn.  The award is given for outstanding and distinguished service in accordance with our motto … liberty, equality and fraternity.  Louise Corsello, a Past President of the Per Sempre Ladies Lodge #2344A in Lynbrook, and Natale Mannino a Past President of the Arturo Toscanini Lodge #2107 in Dix Hills, each were presented with the Order’s prestigious Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro award named after the Order’s founder.  The purpose of the award is to recognize and acknowledge OSIA members who have distinguished themselves in the ideals and principles exemplified by its founder, Dr. Sellaro.  John and Elena Fratta were presented with the 2011 Family of the Year Award.  The Fratta Family hails from the Lt. Joseph Petrosino Lodge #285 in New York City.  They were honored for their outstanding involvement within the Sons of Italy as well as their civic and community service.  The 2011 Literary Award was presented to Richard Vetere.  Mr. Vetere has a master’s in English Literature from Columbia University and has just been made a lifetime Member of the Writer’s Guild of America East.
 
Representatives from 76 lodges throughout the state donated over $65,000 to various worthwhile charities including: Cooley’s Anemia, Alzheimer’s, Autism, Cancer Research, the Commission for Social Justice (CSJ) and New York OSIA’s own Garibaldi Meucci Museum.
 
More than 400 delegates and guests were delighted to welcome New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli to address those attending our prestigious Bene Emeritus Awards Banquet.  New York OSIA is proud to acknowledge the wonderful achievements of Comptroller DiNapoli and could not be prouder of this fine Italian American gentleman.
 
The highlight of the 105th State Convention was the Installation Ceremony of the 2011-2013 Executive Board Officers held on Saturday evening, June 4th.
 
In closing the convention, State President Lupo remarked, "It is up to all of us to keep our Order growing and to carry on as respected and accomplished Italian Americans.  Together we will meet the challenges of tomorrow and celebrate the rebirth of our beautiful Italian heritage!"
