The following State Officers were elected as well: Thomas Lupo, State 1st Vice President; Joseph F. Rondinelli, State 2nd Vice President; Carolyn Reres, State Orator; Carmine Federico, State Recording Secretary; Bruce Lankewish, State Financial Secretary; Biagio Isgro, State Corresponding Secretary and Robert Ferrito, State Treasurer.  Both State Principal Trustee William Lamont and New York State Deputy Santina Haemmerle were re-appointed for an additional term.  Former State President Nancy DiFiore Quinn now serves as the Immediate Past President of the New York OSIA.
 
The Bene Emeritus Award, the State’s highest award was presented to John Dabbene.  The award is given for outstanding and distinguished service in accordance with our motto … liberty, equality and fraternity.  Mr. Dabbene is a member of the Fr. Vincent R. Capodanno Lodge #2251 in Staten Island and serves as a National Trustee of the Supreme Lodge, Order Sons of Italy in America.  He is also the President and CEO of the Garibaldi Meucci Museum located on Staten Island.
 
Annette Lankewish, President of the Donatello Lodge #2559 in Westbury, and Carmine Rosato, a Past President of the Per Sempre Lodge #2344 in Lynbrook, each were presented with the Order’s prestigious Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro award named after the Order’s founder.  The purpose of the award is to recognize and acknowledge OSIA members who have distinguished themselves in the ideals and principles exemplified by its founder, Dr. Sellaro.
 
Joseph and Marylou Rando were presented with the 2009 Family of the Year Award.  The Rando Family hails from the Cellini Lodge #2206 in New Hyde Park.  They were honored for their outstanding involvement within the Sons of Italy as well as their civic and community service.
 
Representatives from 79 lodges throughout the state donated over $70,000 to various worthwhile charities including: Cooley’s Anemia, Alzheimer’s, the Commission for Social Justice (CSJ) and New York OSIA’s, Garibaldi Meucci Museum, Gift of Sight and the 9-11 Memorial.  Delegates also raised over $100,000 for the L’Aquila Earthquake Relief effort.

More than 400 delegates and guests were delighted to welcome New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli to address those assembled in session.  A devoted member of the Cellini Lodge #2206 of New Hyde Park, NYOSIA is proud to acknowledge the wonderful achievements of Mr. DiNapoli and could not be prouder of this fine Italian American gentleman.
 
The 2009 Literary Award was presented to Adriana Trigiani, one of today’s bestselling novelists.  Ms. Trigiani was a delight to behold and absolutely transfixed the entire audience of delegates and guests with her stories about growing up in an Italian household.   
 
The highlight of the 103rd State Convention was the Installation Ceremony of the 2009-2011 Executive Officers held on Saturday evening, June 6th.  Salvatore Lanzilotta was elected the 29th State President of the Grand Lodge of New York OSIA by acclamation as well as all of the remaining Executive Board of Grand Lodge Officers.  

In closing the convention, State President Lanzilotta spoke about his goal of increasing and retaining membership within New York OSIA.  He is determined to dedicate his term of office to bringing more members into our fraternal organization along with preserving the beautiful Italian heritage and language of Italy.
