The following State Officers were elected as well: Salvatore Lanzilotta, State 1st Vice President; Thomas Lupo, State 2nd Vice President; Joseph D’Amico, State Orator; Carolyn Reres, State Recording Secretary; Bruce Lankewish, State Financial Secretary; Carmine Federico, State Corresponding Secretary and Joseph F. Rondinelli, State Treasurer.  The convention was held at the Holiday Inn Albany, Albany, New York.

The Bene Emeritus Award, the State’s highest award was presented to Lucy F. Codella.  The award is given for outstanding and distinguished service in accordance with our motto … liberty, equality and fraternity.  Ms. Codella is President of the Aquileia Ladies Lodge #935 in White Plains.  Connie Conte, a Past President of the Edward J. Speno Lodge #2568 in East Meadow, and Nicholas Mauro a Past President of the Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro Lodge #2319 in Smithtown, each were presented with the Order’s prestigious Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro award named after the Order’s founder.  The purpose of the award is to recognize and acknowledge OSIA members who have distinguished themselves in the ideals and principles exemplified by it’s founder, Dr. Sellaro.  Grace and Angelo Ferrara were presented with the 2007 Family of the Year Award.  The Ferrara Family hails from the Cellini Lodge #2206 in New Hyde Park.  They were honored for their outstanding involvement within the Sons of Italy as well as their civic and community service.

Representatives from 81 lodges throughout the state donated $65,600 to various worthwhile charities including: Cooley’s Anemia, Alzheimer’s, Coaches vs. Cancer, the Commission for Social Justice (CSJ) and New York OSIA’s own Garibaldi Meucci Museum.

More than 500 delegates and guests were delighted to welcome New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli to address those assembled in session.  NYOSIA is proud to acknowledge the wonderful achievements of Mr. DiNapoli and could not be prouder of this fine Italian American gentleman.

The highlight of the 101st State Convention was the Installation Ceremony of the 2007-2009 Executive Officers held on Saturday evening, June 9th.  Nancy DiFiore Quinn was elected the 28th State President of the Grand Lodge of New York by acclamation.  The New York Grand Lodge is proud to boast of the first woman elected in 101 years to the high office of President of NYSOSIA.

In closing the convention, State President DiFiore Quinn remarked “My goal is to make OSIA a better place to be.  It is as simple as that.  If we respect one another … and most especially cooperate with one another … then, and only then, will we be able to build an achievable strategy for the future.
