After a wreath laying ceremony at the founding site, over 180 guests walked over to SPQR for dinner and a presentation ceremony.  State President Nancy DiFiore Quinn presented John Dabbene of the Fr. Vincent R. Capodanno Lodge #2251, Staten Island with the 2007 State Presidents Lifetime Achievement Award.  John was lauded for his many unselfish accomplishments on behalf of the Italian American community and OSIA.  He works with passion, a heart full of love for his heritage … and never expects any kudos in return.  But, it was time to recognize his so many good works and show appreciation for a lifetime of dedication to the Grand Lodge of New York, Order Sons of Italy in America.  John is presently serving as the President/CEO of the Garibaldi Meucci Museum.

A special New York OSIA Hall of Fame Award, medal and citation was presented to Joseph Sciame of the Cellini Lodge #2206, New Hyde Park.  This award is only presented to those who have reached the highest elected position of State President in the Grand Lodge of New York and then the highest elected position of National President in the Supreme Lodge.  Past inductees to the Hall of Fame are Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro, Founder of the Order, Dr. Vincent Buffa, Frances Mezzatesta, Esq., Stefano Miele, Esq., and Peter R. Zuzolo. With his expertise in leadership and vision for the future, Joseph Sciame has done much to more our great Order into the future.  He is presently serving as President and Chairman of New York’s Italian Heritage and Culture Month Committee.

Chairing the entire event was Sylvia Summa of the Daughters & Sons of Italian Heritage Lodge #2428 and John Fratta of the Lt. Joseph Petrosino Lodge #2741, Manhattan.  Both of them did a tremendous job along with their hard working committee … Louis Biundo, Louise Corsello, Anthony Corsello, Margaret Forte, Nicholas Mauro, Maria Oddo and Toni Spinelli.

It was a wonderful day full of praise for both our honorees … praise and acknowledgement that they both so richly deserved.  We must thank the Little Italy Merchants Association for gifting us with a generous donation to help defray the cost for the day’s event!
We look forward to next year’s 103rd Anniversary event!
