New York State OSIA Raises Funds for Autism

The New York Grand Lodge Foundation, Inc., Order Sons of Italy in America held its first Casino Night to raise funds for Autism on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Constantino Brumidi Lodge #2211 in Deer Park, New York.

State Autism Chairperson Rae Lanzilotta and Co-Chairperson Barbara Lupo … along with the entire committee … did an outstanding job with this new concept for philanthropic fundraising for New York OSIA.

The 106th Annual State Convention of the Grand Lodge of New York, Order Sons of Italy in America was held at the Villa Roma Resort & Conference Center in Callicoon, New York.  Kudos were given to state convention chairperson Carol DiTrapani and the entire convention committee for a wonderful event.

State President Thom Lupo presided over the convention and it was obvious to all that he was well prepared and enjoyed overseeing all the aspects of the business portion of this yearly "coming together" of the Brothers and Sisters of the Grand Lodge of New York.

During the convention, the following State Trustees were elected for a two year term:  District 1 – Louis Gallo, Joseph Vallone; District 2 – Angela DeCosimo, Gina Ferrara; District 3 – Anthony Corsello, Toni Spinelli; District 4 – Louis Mazzacone, John M. Rubbo;  District 5 – Susan Alicea;  District 6 – Cesare Maniccia;  District 7 – Valerie Gobbo, Jim Spatafora;  District 8 – Anthony DiCostanzo.  District 2 State Trustee Anthony Naccarato was appointed by President Lupo to serve as State Principal Trustee.

In celebration of their 30th Golden Lion Awards Dinner, the New York Grand Lodge Foundation, Order Sons of Italy in America held its annual event at the Garden City Hotel on Friday evening, April 27, 2012.  With over 320 guests in attendance, this venerated event and commemorative journal was a financial success due to the overwhelming commitment by the singular Golden Lion Honoree, Michael F. Cipriani.

Vice President of the Foundation, Carolyn Reres served as the General Dinner Chairperson and together with Foundation President Thomas Lupo, they lauded the accomplishments of the 2012 Golden Lion Honoree Michael  F. Cipriani, Executive Vice President of Rosenthal & Rosenthal, Inc.

WASHINGTON, DC, March 14, 2012 The Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), the nation’s largest and oldest organization representing Americans of Italian heritage, has sent formal congratulations to U.S. Senator John Kerry (D – MA) for sponsoring a Senate Resolution [S.Res.394] that passed March 12, recognizing the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.

OSIA also thanked Sen. Kerry for his responsiveness when OSIA National Executive Director/CEO Dr. Philip R. Piccigallo discussed the matter with him during an Italian Embassy reception for Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti on Feb. 9.

Who would have thought that the weather at our 19th Winter Charity Ball would actually be considered to be "warm and balmy"?  On Friday, January 27th, the New York Grand Lodge Foundation, Inc., Order Sons of Italy in America honored four wonderful Italian American role models.

The program opened with the National and Italian Anthems beautifully sung by Italian American Tenor Jimmy Alleva.   Over 225 guests were entertained during the evening by singer and songwriter Giada Valenti whose beautiful voice filled the room with love and emotion.  Foundation President Thomas Lupo lauded the wonderful attributes of the honorees and the Charity Ball committee.

On Saturday, November 5 at 2 p.m., national, state and local officials of the Order Sons of Italy in America, will hold a dedication ceremony at the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum to celebrate the successful completion of the first phase of the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum Commemorative Brick Walkway project. Launched on March 17, 2011 to coincide with the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, the campaign has already installed more than 250 engraved bricks, with another 100 soon to be engraved, in an inspirational walkway in front of the historic site at 420 Tompkins Avenue in Rosebank, Staten Island.

“FDA Approves New Treatment Option for Patients with Thalassemia”

DiTrapani, Sarno, Haemmerle Re-Elected for Second Terms

Orlando, Fla., August 13, 2011 - The Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), the oldest and largest national organization for men and women of Italian heritage, re-elected Joseph DiTrapani of New York to serve a second 2-year term as National President, during its 52nd Biennial National Convention in Orlando, August 7-14, 2011.

Information from the Constantino Brumidi Lodge #2211, Deer Park, New York.

Three years ago (July 1, 2008), President Bush signed the legislation awarding the Congressional Gold Medal, posthumously, to Constantino Brumidi.

We have been informed that the medal has been designed and cast and is ready for presentation by the Congress. Representative Bill Pascrell, sponsor of the legislation and co-chair of The Italian American Congressional Delegation is making a strong, concerted effort to have the Medal presented this fall. The person who will be most responsible for making the decision on whether to hold the ceremony is House Speaker John A. Boehner.
